Adena Moore of Mount Airy, NC has for years thought that her first name was unique. She never met anyone else with that name.
Born to Glen & Maxine Moore of Unionville, MI, her mother told her that she was named for a character in the opera by Donizetti called “The Elixir of Love”. In the opera, her name would have been spelled “Adina” but her Mother was afraid that people would have pronounced her name wrong-so she changed the spelling.
It wasn't until high school, that she learned that there was a town in Ohio with her name, as well as Pre-Columbian Native American mound builders. She always said that one day she would visit that town.
Over 35 years later, while traveling home from Michigan, she finally got to visit “her town”. “I was thrilled”. It's a quiet town. Population is abut 815 people which is larger than Unionville,MI where she grew up. Her hometown population is about 550. Adena (the town) still has many streets which are brick. “I wish I could have spent more time visiting the place and meeting the locals. But due to limited time constraints, I was only able to take some pictures of some of the signs and buildings.” She did discover that there is a website dedicated to the town www.adenanews.com.
Every few years she Google's her name just to see what's out there. There are now 6 people with her full name, a town in Ohio, Adena Health System, and the Native American mound builders. She's not as unique as she once was.
